Verizon's shift away from visible signals costly prepaid plans
Verizon's Visible, once hailed as the ultimate budget wireless hack, may be losing its appeal as the carrier nudges customers toward more expensive postpaid contracts.

Verizon's email to switch users to unlimited welcome plan
In a recent email, Verizon encouraged customers to switch from Visible to its Unlimited Welcome plan for $55 per month, touting benefits like a discounted iPhone and subscription savings.
However, this comes with a catch - Unlimited Welcome offers slower 5G speeds and no hotspot data, a stark contrast to Visible's cheapest plan at $25 per month, inclusive of taxes and fees.
Verizon's postpaid plans are not tax-inclusive, meaning customers will end up paying more than the advertised price.
Visible's low prices allow it to compete with MVNOs and cable companies, but its rock-bottom rates may be unsustainable, a trend that could be driving Verizon's push for customers to upgrade.
Alternatively, with wireless growth slowing, Verizon may be trying to maximize revenue per user, as postpaid subscribers tend to stick around longer due to installment plan terms compared to prepaid customers who can easily switch to rivals.
For customers who don't require the bells and whistles of postpaid plans, sticking with Visible might be a better option, especially if they don't want their monthly expenses to skyrocket.
