Look beyond sequential read speeds
Many consumers make the mistake of prioritizing sequential read speeds when selecting an SSD. While it's true that a higher sequential read speed will generally provide better overall performance, it's not the only factor to consider. In reality, the random read and write performance – also known as IOPS (input/output operations per second) – plays a much more significant role in everyday usage. This is because modern applications and operating systems often engage in small, fragmented file accesses, which can quickly overwhelm slower SSDs. Even if your new SSD boasts impressive sequential read speeds of 7,000 MB/s, if its IOPS are lackluster, you may not notice a significant improvement over your old HDD.
