The grip that moves the screen, not the thumb
Inside the curved glass rails, a ring of 64 low-profile capacitive sensors marries with two 3-D time-of-flight cameras. Together they read palm topography 120 times a second, feeding a Kirin 9030 NPU that re-renders the interface before the finger arrives. Incoming call? Here’s the part most gloss over. The Kirin 9030 inside is stitched together with 1980s-era DUV scanners because the 2010-era EUV machines sit behind a licensing wall. SMIC burns through seven masking passes where TSMC needs three, turning each wafer into a high-stakes lottery. Sources inside the fab say yield hovers around 35 %—half the industry norm—yet Huawei keeps ordering bigger lots, gambling that the payoff will be a phone that feels smaller than it is.

Expect Cupertino to resurrect the filing the moment Huawei’s shipments tick up, cloaked in Jony-Ive-style superlatives about “magical ergonomics.”
