The root cause: a doze disaster?
Google’s initial response, a standard ‘we’re looking into it’ statement, did little to quell the rising tide of anger. However, digging deeper reveals a potential culprit: a bug introduced in the March update that’s effectively crippling the phone’s Doze battery-saving mode. This mechanism, designed to restrict background app activity, appears to have been severely compromised, allowing apps to relentlessly consume power even when the device is ostensibly idle.
Analysis suggests the Samsung Exynos modem might also be playing a role, potentially pinging the CPU unnecessarily, even in airplane mode. Adding fuel to the fire, Meta’s Instagram and Facebook apps are being flagged as significant battery hogs, alongside 5G connectivity and Google Play Store processes. What’s particularly galling is the protracted response time. Two months since the initial complaints surfaced, and Google remains stubbornly silent on a concrete solution.
