Samsung Confirms Galaxy S23 FE Will Receive No Further Major Updates

Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S23 FE will receive One UI 9, based on Android 17, as its final major software update. This follows a tip from Tarun Vats, who reported a conversation with Samsung regarding the device’s update timeline.

Galaxy S23 Series Reaching End of Updates

Launched with Android 13 and One UI 5.1, the Galaxy S23 series – including the S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra – are nearing the end of their support. This mirrors a similar situation with the Galaxy S22 series, which didn’t receive the One UI 8.5 update despite being based on Android 16.

Past Update Patterns

Historically, Google would release new Android versions in the fall, followed by significant One UI updates in the new year. However, this pattern shifted last year with Google launching Android 16 in June, followed by an early One UI 8 release. Samsung subsequently launched One UI 8.5 with new features.

Limited Future Updates for S23 Owners

Galaxy S23 owners can anticipate receiving One UI 9, but a future One UI 9.5 update, based on Android 17, is unlikely. This update is expected to debut on the Galaxy S27 series next year. This news may prompt some owners to consider upgrading to newer Samsung devices.
