Spanish startup launches 'pocket' satellite, bolsters european defense tech

But the story doesn’t stop there. Hydra Space also acted as a technological facilitator for Spinning Around, a startup hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland. The Spanish firm integrated a microgravity experiment designed by Spinning Around onto SpinnyOne, providing invaluable real-world testing opportunities. This demonstrates Hydra’s growing 'in-orbit validation' service line, catering to both commercial and institutional clients.
Rapid deployment, agile innovation
Pablo Durbán, CEO of Hydra Space Systems, emphasized the company's agility. “This milestone isn’t just about designing, building, and launching connectivity solutions—it’s about doing so quickly, efficiently, and entirely in-house,” he stated. The rapid six-month turnaround, from concept to orbit, showcases a NewSpace ethos that prioritizes speed and adaptability.
The Spanish Space Agency is actively recruiting to fill 16 permanent positions related to the SpinnyOne project, signaling a significant investment in expanding indigenous capabilities.
